The law clerks at Russell Alexander Collaborative Family Lawyers are trained professionals completing independent legal work under the direction and guidance of the firm’s lawyers.
We are vital team members and are responsible for providing administrative support including but not limited to researching, compiling, comparing, and organizing legal documents, corresponding with clients on behalf of the lawyer as well as acting as the intermediary between the clients and the lawyer. Our key responsibilities are:
- Opening & closing of client files, in accordance with firm policies and procedures and LSUC guidelines.
- Draft documents as needed (including but not limited to applications, separation agreements, parenting plans, pleadings, affidavits, memos, correspondence, and conference briefs)
- Preparing Financial Statements and Financial Disclosure Briefs, Net Family Property Statements and Comparisons of Net Family Property Statements.
- Scheduling court attendances (including Case Conferences, Motions, Settlement Conferences, etc.), mediations, examinations, etc.
Arranging for serving and filing of court documents. - Filing, diarizing deadlines (including court appearances and serving/filing deadlines), and maintaining a reliable reminder system.
- Schedule and maintain the assigned Associate Lawyer’s calendar.
- Act as a liaison with clients, opposing counsel, and necessary third-party experts.
- Managing the electronic client files in accordance with firm policies and procedures.
- Upkeep all current and active files.
- Docketing time daily and maintaining accurate billing records.
