Joseph B. Cugini

Associate Lawyer

Joseph’s passion for family law stems from a deep-seated desire to help families navigate challenging times with sensitivity and care. He firmly believes in the positive impact of having a compassionate and patient advocate during such emotionally stressful times.

With a commerce background, Joseph developed strong skills in negotiation, analytical reasoning, and critical thinking, invaluable in his role as a family lawyer. He honed his legal writing and research in law school and gained practical experience through the Family and Children Law Placement course overseen by Professor Nicholas Bala at Queen’s University. His work with families and children deepened his understanding of family law complexities and reinforced his advocacy passion. Furthermore, his articling period at the firm exposed him to a range of family law issues, enhancing his confidence in offering effective legal guidance on a variety of related matters.

Recognizing the importance of strong interpersonal skills for a family lawyer, Joseph emphasizes active listening, clear communication, and empathy with clients. His friendly and approachable demeanour fosters a comfortable environment for clients to discuss their personal and emotional matters. He is committed to building a strong rapport with clients, ensuring they feel supported and heard throughout the legal process.

Joseph is also certified as a collaborative professional with the Ontario Association of Collaborative Professionals, offering clients an alternative dispute resolution pathway where parties in a separation agree to work together respectfully, honestly, and in good faith to reach a mutually agreeable settlement without going to court.

Beyond his legal pursuits, Joseph is a dedicated sports fan, finding joy (although most times it’s difficult) in cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs and the LA Rams. In his spare time, he enjoys playing hockey and watching movies.
