Congratulations to the 5th Annual Russell Alexander Law Scholarship Recipient
Calvin Cao will receive $2,500 for tuition and school supplies Russell Alexander Collaborative Family Lawyers announced today that it has chosen Ontario native Calvin Cao as the recipient of its fifth annual Russell Alexander Law Scholarship, awarded each year to a student interested in joining the legal profession. Cao, an Ontario student at Western University, will receive $2,500 for tuition and school supplies to study law.
“Calvin inspired us with his entrepreneurial spirit shown in his application, which included how he created a website to allow students to study business on their own,” said Russell Alexander. “He brings the kind of forward-thinking approach and drive that we are looking for in the next generation of leaders in the legal profession.”
While still in high school, Cao created Decapedia.com, an online resource for students in the Distributive Education Clubs of America, a popular business club, after seeing that buying the learning guides was cost-prohibitive for many students. The site now has thousands of users. Cao, who is currently studying at Western University, is considering pre-law.
The $2,500 scholarship will cover his costs of his post-secondary education, including $2,000 for tuition and $500 toward the cost of school supplies such as a new laptop, printer, or notebooks. Awarded since 2017, the Russell Alexander Law Scholarship is available to Canadian students enrolling in post-secondary school each Fall. Applicants must have a grade average of 80 percent or higher and an interest in joining the legal community and/or studying law.
“The law should be open to everyone,” added Alexander. “Offering this scholarship is our way of helping ensure that the doors are wide open to the legal profession.”
