Legal Profession
Awarded since 2017, the Russell Alexander Law Scholarship helps students who have an interest in studying law or joining the legal profession in order to offset the high costs of education, and support the legal field in Canada. “The legal profession should be open to everyone,” said founder Russell Alexander. “Our hope is that this scholarship can help make it more accessible for the next generation.”
Scholarship Applications
The scholarship, which opened on March 1, 2024, is available to Canadian students enrolling in post-secondary in the Fall of 2024. Applicants must have a grade average of 80% or higher, and an interest in joining the legal community and/or studying law.
The recipient will receive up to $2,000 for tuition and a $500 bonus to go toward the cost of school supplies of their choice such as a laptop, printer, or notebooks.
Along with basic information about their educational record, applicants are required to submit an essay of no more than 1,000 words on one of two subjects included on the application form. The application must be submitted by June 30, 2024.
“Post-secondary education is expensive, and studying to become a lawyer, even more so,” added Alexander. “We all remember struggling to pay the bills when we were in college and hope this will help make things a little nicer for the recipient.”
