Russell I. Alexander Giving Fund Accepting New Applications
for 2010
Lindsay, ON
Russell I. Alexander family law firm is looking to support
smaller charitable and non-profit organizations that are making a difference.
Since 2009, the family law firm of Russell I. Alexander
has formalized its community giving through the “Russell I. Alexander
Giving Fund”. Established as a means to help charitable and not
for profit organizations located mainly in Durham Region and City of
Kawartha Lakes area continue their good work in these regions, the
Fund awards an annual grant of up to $5,000.00 payable to qualified
Applicants.
“We are happy, as an organization, to be able to
help our community in this very meaningful way,” said Russell
Alexander. “In 2009, our grant was awarded to Covenant House,
Canada’s largest youth shelter, which opens its doors of opportunity
and hope to homeless youth, but now with the Giving Fund, we are able
to contribute even more.”
“We are pleased to announce Lindsay Girls Hockey
Association, operating as Lindsay Lynx as our 2010 grant recipient.”
The Lindsay Girls Hockey Association operates out of
the Town of Lindsay with their home ice in several of the Lindsay and
surrounding arenas. It supports the entire City of Kawartha Lakes Region
and has accepted players from as far away as Haliburton, when there
were no closer leagues for these girls to play in. This league provides
young girls from the age of 7 to 17 the opportunity to learn and develop
their hockey skills and participate in the game of hockey without having
to complete with and against boys.
Teresa Brooks, President of the Lindsay Girls Hockey
Association stated: “We are going to use the grant from Russell
Alexander for equipment for our younger girls so that the house league
girls have goalie equipment because they have always had hand me downs,
and to get new or newer equipment....”
Brooks said “We are very appreciative of the grant….”
About the Grant
Russell Alexander said that the Russell I. Alexander
Giving Fund Guidelines are now available on the firm’s website,
www.russellalexander.com. “We are looking for local organizations
to support that have an important mission, but may not have the visibility
and resources of some of the larger non-profits,” he said. “We
try to choose those groups that we believe have a good track record
of success, and also can use the dollars to implement meaningful outreach
efforts for the community.”
According to Alexander, the Russell I. Alexander Giving
Fund supports programs in the areas of community development, arts
and culture, sports, education, and health and human services. The
guidelines for grants are posted on the firm’s website, and applicants
must send in their requests for grants no later than October 31, 2010.
